You still need a pc or Mac to run the hue sync software as well. First setup up your lights in the desired location, then through the hue smart app create an entertainment zone that include your lights and there position. Then install the hue sync app on pc or mac, once you’ve followed the install instructions and your hue bridge synced you’ll be able to select the entertainment zone you created and sync. Now any content on your pc or Mac will sync with your lights. Next step is to install PlayStation remote play app on your pc or Mac tha has hue sync installed. The install steps from PlayStation explain how to enable remote play on your PS4 too, with enabled and software installed on your pc or mac, PlayStation gives you a code to enter in the remote play app to link the two devices. Once this step is done you can have the PlayStation remote play app full screen on PC or Mac playing a game and it will control the lights. Now if the pc isn’t in the vicinity of the tv/lights you can still achieve the same effect, but you’ll need to have two PS4 controllers and two separate PlayStation accounts/logins. The primary account / controller will be used in the livingroom directly with the lights/ps4. Secondary account / controller on the pc or Mac with remote play. Assuming you’ve performed all the steps earlier and hue sync has been set to auto start on your pc/mac.. you first start remote play on the pc or mac, logging on with secondary PlayStation account and controller, once that is up and running full screen on your pc or mac you then go to the livingroom, press PlayStation button on second controller to turn it on and on your tv you associate it with your primary account. With your pc and playstation left on you can now play your games sync’d to your lights. Because you are using remote play you may notice some slight input lag on faster games, its not a perfect solution, but is doable if you have two controllers and PlayStation accounts.. Searching popular video sites for hue sync with PS4 will provide video guides too. Ultimately Sony, Xbox or others need their own app, but it’s probably unlikely that will happen. I’ve seen reports this process can work with Xbox and their remote play apps but haven’t tried that. One note: Hue sync running in real-time can be pretty hectic with lots of flashing lights, for movies it can be recommended to slow the sync down as it can be hard on the eyes, same can be true on ps4. Using the solution above also allows you to run streaming services apps on PS4 to achieve same effect watching tv and movies. **Q: Could this be layed on its back, behind furniture to act as an uplighter ?** A: Yes it can **Q: what is the point? it's a very expensive bar of light.** A: It's obviously not for your creativity or budget, my advice would be stick with your B22 from the pound shop. **Q: Is the extension always the same colour as powered unit?..... or can they work independently and produce different colours??** A: The only thing that makes this an "extension" is that it doesn't come with a power adapter. Because the main unit allows for 3 lights to be powered from it. At the time I wasn't sure where to place them for backlighting when watching TV or behind our bedside cabinets. If you haven't used Philips Hue before, then you're in for a real treat. Once setup with the required Hub (technically I don't think it is required, but the functionality is severely limited without it), it allows you to connect to a portable light-switch (use a light-switch cover available on Amazon), your phone, or controllable by asking Alexa/Google Home/Siri. The lights are well made, have a long life at 25,000 hours and mostly are bright with clear colours; my daughter loves 'Barbie Pink' in her bedroom. They're not the cheapest, but you certainly get what you pay for. This pack comes with two lights. These lights have a stand that allow you to stand them on their ends or on their sides depending on where you're placing them. The lights and the plastic on the lights is extremely good quality, but I do think the black plastic stands look a little cheap; especially on a white light surround. The set comes with a plug and adaptor that allows you to use this in either UK or the EU, there is a spare connector to plug a third light (sold separately) in the same socket. Helpfully the pack even has some 3M stickers the right size to allow you to mount them somewhere.
