I was a bit of a job getting the old one out as the plumber had used copious amounts of plumbers mate to seal the old one in. Thoroughly cleaned away the old silicon putty and fitted the new sink waste just using the silicon washers supplied. Made sure all the fittings were tightened, just used the original fitting and pipes. Pushed the pop up click clack down turned on the water and voilΓ  the water stayed in the sink with no leaks, pressed it down again and the sink emptied with no leaks in the pipe fittings. Ridiculous, 50p worth of washer preventing something from working as it should. Eventually I decided to purchase a replacement one and liked this style, where the plunger remains above the sink level - no chance of it getting stuck, like the old one did! The reviews were good, the price was good, so I thought I'd try it.The worst thing was getting the old one out, but having done that and cleaned up the sink, fitting the new one was simple. No silicon or plumbers mate needed. I was able to tighten it all up by hand and there were no leaks. It works! The only vaguely plumber thing I had to do was cut a section of waste pipe out so that it lined up with the new position of the waste outlet. The fitting was very easy to install - although I included a generous silicone mastic bead to the joint between basin outlet and underside of the waste fitting as the basin outlet sides sloped quite considerably. However, all tightened up easily and fitted snugly into place with no leaks! I did purchase a very wide opening adjustable spanner to tighten up the bolted connection but hardly needed it - as there is a long chromed sleeve extending below the actual nut section which allows a good grip for tightening.
