The Darwin Hybrid variety generally lasts several years and are the best bet for US climate. Beware that squirrels, voles, rodents absolutely love tulips. If you have rodents, planting cages are available online to protect your tulips from being eaten. Squirrels dug all my tulip bulbs out of the pots I had planted them in. Good luck! **Q: How big an area is this meant to cover?** A: It contains 50 bulbs .. 10 of each kind. The area depends on how you'd like to space them **Q: Can these bulbs be firced in containers? If so how?** A: Containers can be used to grow bulbs, and you can mix different types together that will give you a spring bouquet. Just make sure the container has drainage holes at the bottom so excess water can escape. Plant the bulbs 3 to 4 inches below soil level in the fall using a good grade of soil mixed with bone meal for best results. Over the winter months, they will be tucked away in their warm space and will break through the soil in the spring. Note: This is not the best way to plant bulbs. I prefer to plant them directly into the ground so I don't have to worry about crowding conditions, as bulbs need "breathing room." **Q: Can I plant these bulbs together in a container basket? I plan on having hanging baskets with these flowers. Will it be too crowded to plant together?** A: These are intended to be planted in a flower garden and they will last forever.
