This particular module, however, also features a the Grove connector promoted by Seeed Studio, as well as a fully-integrated RGB backlight. I'm not fond of proprietary connectors like the Grove connector however, as an instructor, I do appreciate how this eliminates hassles related to wiring mistakes and allows novices to focus on coding and logic. I'm using modules like this one in conjunction with Seeed Studio's Grove Beginner Kit -- which I feel to be absolutely the best value out there today, for beginners. That kit, featuring a well-rounded collection of sensors is amazingly priced, honestly serves as a turnkey introduction to embedded systems.The support code provided by Seeed Studio works acceptably and is reasonably lean, with a sample sketch weighing in at about 3k. The vendor maintains a healthy amount of HTML content supporting their products, along with dedicated forums that appear to be monitored by Seeed Studio staff. Their codebase is also published via GitHub, so those who require no handholding can find all they need there.Finally, it's worth adding that the economics of selling through an online portal raise the cost of parts like this one.
