I bought it specifically so I could play my combat flight sim games when I'm away from home, which it does admirably, but it is a fully functional DVD drive that was recognized immediately by my laptop as such. I love the compact size, slightly larger than a CD case and about twice as thick, plus the USB 3.0 cord is self contained and snaps inside a recess on the bottom of the case.
