The active ingredient is chlorhexidine digluconate which is an antibacterial agent that reduces the formation of dental plaque and is used to: Treat ; prevent gum disease (where gums may bleed when brushed) Promote gum healing after dental surgery or treatment Control mouth ulcers Maintain mouth hygiene Manage oral thrush and denture sore mouth Corsodyl 0.2% Mouthwash (Alcohol free) treats early signs of gum disease. Contains chlorhexidine digluconate. Always read the label 1. Corsodyl mint mouthwash is a medicine containing chlorhexidine digluconate for the treatment of early signs of gum disease; always read the label 2. For the treatment of gum problems - bleeding gums, irritated gums and mouth ulcers 3. Kills the main cause of gum disease (gingivitis) in 30 seconds (1) 4. Promotes healing after dental surgery or treatment 5. Intensive care to help stop bleeding gums, swollen and inflamed gums Indications For inhibition of the formation of dental plaque. As an aid in the treatment and prevention of gingivitis and in the maintenance of oral hygiene, particularly in situations where toothbrushing cannot be adequately employed. Also for use in a post-peridontal surgery or treatment regimen to promote gingival healing. Useful in the management of aphthous ulceration and oral candidal infections. Ingredients Active ingredient: Chlorhexidine Digluconate 0.2% w/v. Other ingredients: Glycerol, Macrogolglycerol Hydroxystearate, Sorbitol Liquid (Non-Crystallising), Peppermint Flavour and Purified Water. Macrogolglycerol Hydroxystearate may cause skin reactions. Directions The first thing to do if you think you may have a gum problem is talk to your dentist. Corsodyl Treatment Mouthwash is an effective short term treatment for gum disease. Use according to the directions on the label. Use twice a day and fill the cap to 10 ml. Rinse your mouth thoroughly for 1 minute and spit out. For gum disease: A one-month course (600ml) is recommended. Or your dentist may advise you differently depending on your condition. For mouth ulcers or oral thrush: Continue to use for two days after healing has occurred. For denture sore mouth: Clean and soak your dentures in Corsodyl Treatment Mouthwash for 15 minutes twice a day. After dental surgery: Rinse as directed by your dentist. Safety Warning Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use after the 'EXP' date shown on the pack. Temporary staining of teeth: Is staining continues, it can be removed with a scale and polish from your dentist or hygienest. See Patient information Leaflet (underneath) for further information. Macrogoglycerol Hydroxystearate may cause skin reactions. Check before you use Do not use: If you have ever had an allergic reaction to chlorhexidine digluconate or any of the other ingredients (see Storage and further information) In children under 12 years unless recommended by a dentist. Anywhere other than in your mouth. Wash thoroughly if you get any in your eyes or ears. Immediately after brushing your teeth. See Take special care with Corsodyl for more information. See Possible side effects for more information. Toothpastes can stop Corsodyl working. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with water and wait 5 minutes after brushing your teeth before using Corsodyl. You can also use the mouthwash at a different time of day. Do not bleach fabrics that have been in contact with the mouthwash. Pregnancy and breast feeding: You can use Corsodyl if your are pregnant or breast feeding. Possible side effects Corsodyl can have side effects, but not everybody gets them. Stop using the mouthwash and seek immediate medical help if you get a rash, swelling of the lips, tongue, throat or face or have difficulty breathing. These effects may be symptoms of a severe allergic reaction which is very rare. Stop using the mouthwash and tell your dentist if you get irritation of the mouth, soreness or swelling of the inside of the cheeks. These effects should go away when treatment is stopped. Other side effects that may occur: Temporary staining of the tongue. This disappears when treatment is stopped. Temporary staining of the teeth. This can normally be removed by brushing. You can avoid staining by not drinking tea, coffee or red wine - especially one hour after use, and by brushing daily with toothpaste (see Check before you use). If staining continues it can be removed with a scale ; polish from your dentist or hygienist. You can clean your dentures with denture cleaner. You may notice a change of taste or burning sensation when you first use the mouthwash. This usually goes away with continued use. If peeling of the skin inside the mouth occurs, dilute Corsodyl with an equal amount of water. Corsodyl mouthwash is my go-to whenever my gums feel sore or start bleeding. It really works fast—within a few days of using it twice daily, my gums feel healthier and the bleeding stops. The antibacterial action is powerful and helps clear up irritation that regular mouthwash doesn’t touch. I like that this version is alcohol-free, so there’s no burning sensation, and the mild mint flavour is pleasant without being too strong. It leaves my mouth feeling clean and fresh for hours.
