Recommended for use with at least two coats, it covers 100 square feet per gallon and is easy to clean up with warm water and soap. ## Description SC#1000 is a specially formulated water-based coating, comprised of 80% vacated ceramic microscopic beads, held in suspension by viscoelastic resin binders, which are designed to reduce reverberant noise in metal panels, structures, ducts, etc. SC#1000 has excellent noise reduction and transmission loss capabilities, plus the added advantage Hy-Tech’s ThermaCels, insulating ceramic microspheres. This product forms a continuous coverage, reaching all nooks and crannies, not sectioned like an installed product and acts as an excellent weatherproof coating. A waterborne, high build formula that apply 5 times thicker than regular coatings, SC#1000 offers ceramic insulation and soundproofing combined with excellent adhesion. Unlike heavy mats which only add mass and lower the intensity of sound, not vibration, SC#1000 removes noise and unwanted vibrations by converting them into low grade heat, while adding little mass. The back and forth vibrations, mechanical energy, are converted to low level thermal energy or heat, providing structural resonance and impact noise deterrence. It will "work" but it depends on what you are trying to achieve. This product is primarily designed to deaden sound caused by vibration. This would be things like machinery, speaker cabinets, auto panels, walls where sound is coming from the other side, etc. For sound caused by frequency within a room we have the Acousti-Coat. That product acts like a sound 'sponge' within a space and deadens echo and harsh 'tinniness'. **Q: I have an old house (1805) with a exposed heating duct floor to ceiling that sound travels clearly. Would this work ?** A: It would be a good part of a sound proofing process but if you don’t cover the duct work with a panelized insulation board or Sheetrock first then use this paint won’t help. You can secure either Sheetrock or panelized insulation to the duct work with self tapping screws. This will give you a better end result. **Q: How do you apply the coating? Can you use a brush or roller? Can you use a sprayer?** A: Brush and roller. No way to spray it, it's full of sand. Brush the corners, roll the wall, because you constantly have to mix it around. Depending on your texture, 3/8 or 1/2" roller. You want thick coats. You also want to kind of spread the sand around, it's almost like stucco. **Q: Sc#1000 or acusti-coat is best?** A: It depends on the situation and the type of sound to be reduced. Acousti-Coat is mostly a sound 'sponge'. It absorbs sound from the source side.
