The heel is slightly raised (which I didn't want).I wanted a cushion that was evenly the same thickness from heel to toes. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality insert to control pronation *by B***S on Reviewed in the United States on January 2, 2016* These inserts are made from a very firm, rubbery material with a molded in heel cup and arch. They are angled heel to toe to correct for pronation. The inserts seem extremely durable and well made. The firm rubber actually provides better cushioning than foam or gel padding which tends to compress completely and thus provide no cushioning at all. My only complaint is that I need more arch and metatarsal support than these insoles provide. But for pronation I have found nothing better than these insoles.The reason is that I was recently diagnosed with a neuroma in my right foot after wearing expensive orthotic inserts custom made by a podiatrist to control pronation. The custom inserts did not angle the forefoot as do these inserts so I had him make new ones with a metatarsal bar which were horribly uncomfortable.I then tried these insoles with a pedag holiday 3/4 length semi rigid orthotic with heel pad, arch and metatarsal pad. That combination, along with a bit of extra padding to push up the metatarsal pad did the trick. The pain diminished and I can stand and walk pain free after a few weeks use. I also use the pedag viva mini inserts. Both combinations are very comfortable.I did follow my podiatrist's recommendation and bought good quality running shoes that are firm and solid around the heel for better positioning of the foot on the insoles. Nikes and New Balance seem to fit me the best, YMMV. I learned to avoid shoes that have flexible material around the heel - it has to be firm or your foot slides around too much.
