## Description

Redefine your understanding of life and evolution with the 40th Anniversary Edition of Richard Dawkins' landmark work, The Selfish Gene. A cornerstone of modern science writing, this internationally acclaimed bestseller introduced the "gene's-eye view" of evolution—a revolutionary perspective that shifts the focus from individual organisms to the persistent units of information that drive them. Key Features of the 40th Anniversary Edition: • A Scientific Revolution: Explore the groundbreaking theory that genes are the primary units of natural selection, acting in their own interest to ensure survival and replication. • The Origin of "Memes": Discover the book that first coined the term "meme," introducing the concept of cultural elements that spread and evolve much like biological genes. • Enhanced Author Insights: This commemorative edition includes a new epilogue by Richard Dawkins, reflecting on the enduring relevance of these ideas in the context of contemporary evolutionary biology. • Classic Material Preserved: Includes the original prefaces and the 1976 foreword by Robert Trivers, providing historical context for the book's initial impact. • Accessible Brilliance: Part of the Oxford Landmark Science series, this edition is completely re-typeset for improved readability, making complex scientific concepts clear and engaging for students and general readers alike. • Comprehensive Scope: Delve into topics such as the evolution of aggressive behavior, kinship theory, reciprocal altruism, and the "extended phenotype"—the idea that a gene's influence reaches far beyond the individual body. Whether you are a student of biology or a curious reader, this definitive edition offers a profound look at the deep mechanisms of life, challenging you to rethink your beliefs about nature, altruism, and the biological drives that shape our world.

Review: We all are Machines! - The book takes complex scientific ideas and makes them incredibly clear and engaging, using vivid examples that stick with you. It even introduced the concept of "memes" – ideas or cultural elements that spread from person to person, much like genes. While the title might make it seem like a bleak read, it actually offers profound insights without being overly deterministic. It helps us understand our fundamental biological drives while also acknowledging our capacity for higher thought and even altruism. If you're curious about the deep mechanisms of life and want a fresh, compelling view of evolution, this book is an absolute must-read. It's a classic that continues to challenge and inform new generations.

Further, there are references on the composition of cells and how genes get impacted in due course of time.
