The cake is more like a brownie, as it doesn’t rise like a cake would. It’s called a snack cake, maybe that’s a term for a brownie I don’t know about. The problem is the texture is off. Way off for some in the family. It looks like it’s going to be moist and yummy when you break it open, but it’s dry in your mouth- overly dry, like gonna suck all the moisture out of your mouth dry. Makes no sense. They were not over cooked, followed odd directions perfectly. Most of the family wouldn’t eat them due to the texture. So the birds enjoyed them after I had a few small squares. Did not use the frosting. Made it, it was a waste of a stick of butter. Way too sweet and really unnecessary. I don’t frost brownies and I think it would have made them more inedible, if that’s possible. Would I buy it again, no. Unfortunately, based on good reviews, I bought 4 boxes the first time. so I’ve got 3 boxes to put in gift baskets for the holidays, I guess. Maybe someone else will like them? ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best box cake I've ever made! *by L***L on Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2019* The directions were very easy and I made the box with a 3 year old child. The batter is very thin and drippy (made with melted butter instead of whipped butter like homemade). We made 12 cupcakes instead of the 8x8 cake. They baked for about 24 minutes.The texture of the cake is velvety and pleasing and very different than any other box cake. I think the rye flour contributes to the unique texture. The frosting is a chocolate buttercream and it's very sweet. The box mix makes a lot of frosting, more than enough for a generous amount on each cupcake. I might add a pinch of salt to the frosting next time.Overall I think it tasted great and I like the half - portion compared to a mainstream box cake. I liked the ingredients.
