Yes, I have added ice to the water chamber. There is not an automatic shutoff so I am quite sure you would burn up the pump if you let it run dry. Also, you need to run the unit on fan only for at least 1/2 hour after usage to dry the membrane. Others have complained of their water smelling, but I’m sure it was the membrane from not being properly dried after use. I have mine plugged into a timer so that when I’m finished with it and turn it to fan only, it shuts off automatically after 1/2 hour. **Q: How do you install the casters? Past the tip there’s is a ring that prevents me from inserting them completely. What am I missing?** A: Place the wheels with the "brake" in the front of the unit.
