I purchased this, so I would have the flexibility of powering my HP ZBook G4 from a car power port, as well as being able to plug it into airplane outlets. Most commercial aircraft electrical outlets will immediately shut off if a notebook power adapter is plugged in that is designed to provide more than 100 watts of power. High performance mobile workstation computers, often have 125w to 150w adapters. My HP will run on this 90 watt adapter on a plane. However, there are often compromises, such as if your computer is charging the battery and using lots of processor power, the adapter will shut down. It can be reset by unplugging and replugging, and adjusting power settings can also help. The bottom line is that this provides the flexibility to work in the car or on planes with generally tolerable tradeoffs that are pretty much unavoidable for those with high performance notebooks.
