Becoming China

The book is an exhaustive description of the land and people of China from the mists of time to today, written in a very simple, but interesting style. One can read it almost like a large novel, but it interprets China's history in terms of the philosophy and psychology of the people. In my opinion, it helps significantly to understand what is happening in that country and in which direction it may go now. The book would be a great asset for anyone trying to understand that great country.

This is a monumental work that covers, in one fell swoop, the history of China all the way up to recent times. At the same time, the writing is easy to read, well-researched and unbiased. The book, by its very thesis, is colossal but is divided into parts and chapters that would make an interested reader go to relevant sections of interest without going through the whole hog. Any China watcher must have this in her or his library and read it carefully.
