We had a different set from another manufacturer and the one side that screwed together (to fill) was plastic (company said acrylic) that screwed into metal. Well, after a year of use, the one grinder broke inside on the "acrylic" side rendering the grinder inoperable (a chunk of plastic with threads broke off inside). NOT so with this set!! It is metal on metal!! The plastic (or acrylic) tube is basically just glued into the metal housing and its primary purpose is to see the contents and how much is left. I'm pretty sure these will last quite a while!! Currently I'm using for salt (used course ground salt in them) and the other is filled with a smoked pepper, great for throwing in your pocket and seasoning your favorite soup!!! Well made, attractive AND practical!! Review: Nice Idea BUT...... - Had High hopes BUT I was disappointed. They are too small, hard to fill the chamber with a small amount of salt or pepper and have the center pin stay centered to screw on the bottom. Pepper works better than salt Salt did not come out and in less than a week it was rusty crusty on the inside. If you use S&P alot, you'll spend half the time filling or trying to fill them up.
