I haven't seen acid core solder or acid flux in years but it likely still exists. The acid flux is mostly used in plumbing applications, if memory serves me correctly. As someone else mentioned it is still a good idea to clean off the residue of any flux. Neatness counts! **Q: What is this. What does it do** A: One states that it makes soldering easier and another states that it facilitates heat transfer. Both are right. But let ne try to further explain. Solder when heated will sometimes "ball up" when instead you want it to "flow" onto the contact pad on a printed circuit board or "soak" into the wire. It does this properly when there is the right amount of heat between the iron and intended surface. This is where the flux comes in play as it increases soldering productivity by making the desired soldering reactions take place more quickly.
