They love looking at all of the fun little slides and are easy for them to pick up because there are finger holds on either side. The light is a great feature and gives that much more color to what they are looking at.Every time someone comes over my 5 year old runs to get her microscope to show them how cool it is. This is a great toy to get my girls away from their iPads for a while and learning about new things.It is also very lightweight and easily moves from one place to the next. Upon seeing the "microscope" on Amazon I liked the idea that she could use both eyes for looking and not one. I also liked the idea that this was a "toy" that my granddaughter would be able to self-adjust the focus.My 5 year old granddaughter taught me...showed me this was not a "toy" but a scientific instrument. After a few minutes of her seeing...excuse me...viewing the prepared slides that came with the microscope and the additional prepared slides we bought she politely wanted to do the viewing on her own.The one problem I found with this microscope was the mechanism used to hold the slides was not up to the job.FOLLOW-UP: We had a sleep-over that night. The very next morning when my granddaughter woke-up, instead of wanting to watch T.V. or play with her electronic games, all she wanted to do was view more slides on her microscope. Tomorrow, when we get back home [1500 miles away], we need to buy a second one for her to use when she visits us next month.
