Review: Fantastic Value. - Vol 1 consists of the 1826 exercises, 1837 and 1851 transcendental etudes. Both versions: fantastic. Hard to believe the 1851 version is the "simplified" one. Busoni surely added a lot of editorial phrasing and dynamics but fingering? Virtually none. You're on your own for fingering, which is the way it should be since your hands are like no other. The ink is good, the print is good, the paper is light and at 8.5x11 the layout is compact. The binding is tight so a challenge to keep open. "Mazeppa" is in really tiny print. When I get to that one I will need a different edition. If you are a professional, you absolutely should examine this Busoni edition however you will want to get a competition sanctioned scholarly edition elsewhere. 255 pages of music. Few will ever play all these etudes but many, like me, still want to dabble in them. This is perfect for that.
