Yes, you will need to purchased the bulbs separately, but they are easily found at Walmart. I was so surprised by the dimming power of these lamps. They really do have a low, medium, and high setting and it IS as easy as touching the base to turn it on. Reading the description I though I would be able to touch the light and cycle between off and on without going through the different dimming settings; however, there is an actual switch in the cord going to the light that you can turn off or on. Switch is completely worthless. If you touch the light it goes from off, low, med, high, off ... I was hopping if I had the light on low I could touch it to turn it off without cycling through med and high but I was wrong.
