They are super warm, allow very little wind to penetrate but most of all, they are actually long enough! I wish every brand would offer different inseams for each waist size. Nearly impossible to find pants long enough for me. I only wish they had other colors. The pants would have been good for either sport, plus they looked fine in the cabin. I don't care for tight clothing, so I felt comfortable in the looser fit of these. Also, I am 5'11" with a 34" inseam, and I was so glad to see that the pants were plenty long. (If you are a tall woman, you know what it's like to look at the bottom of a rack of pants in a store to see which ones are the longest!) They have a comfortable stretch to them, and although we hiked while the snow was falling, no water soaked through the pants. The looser fit also accommodated long underwear beneath them. The waist sits at my waist, there is a wide band that doesn't roll, and there is a drawstring so I can adjust the fit. The outer material feels soft like nylon. The inner surface is plush but not too thick. The material does give comfortably when you sit. I ordered the next size up for a looser fit, but even this was just a little more snug than I expected, so I would say they run at least a size small.
