(antibiotics don't take care of it b/c it's a virus, not a bacterial infection) Our vet recommended giving this as a supplement, which we did twice/day for a good 6+ months and his symptoms never went away, but never got worse. I thought it wasn't having any effect & started getting lax about giving it to him twice/day, then it became maybe every-other day, then he went a stretch of 4 days w/o getting any at all while we were on vacation & I didn't tell the cat-sitter to give it to him. Terrible mistake. After only getting it sporadically for a couple weeks & then going 4 days w/o, he regressed SO MUCH by the time we got back from vacation. We ended up taking him to an emergency vet, he went downhill so suddenly and was so congested & full of snot. Lesson learned. We are back to faithfully giving him the supplement twice/day and he is doing really well. He'll always sound "snotty" like he has a cold b/c of the damage from the Herpes virus, but before the Enisyl-F his nose used to drain so much snot, we'd have to pick the dried snot off his nose several times a day so it wouldn't crust-over his nostrils & block him up. When he is on the Enisyl-F there is SO much less snot and we haven't had to clean dried boogies off his nose for easily 8 months now.We're lucky, though, that he really likes the stuff. In fact, we have 5 cats & feed them all together, and I put a squirt of this on one of the piles of wet food, and he makes a B-line right for it like he knows that's his pile of food. Unfortunately we have another cat who contracted herpes from him before we knew that's what he had (her symptoms are very minor compared to his), and she refuses to eat it. I have tried mixing it with the food instead of just putting a squirt on top, and she knows it's in there & won't touch it. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As close as a cure as I've found for kitty herpes. Not always all that bad but there have been breakouts now and then. 2 months ago he got a bad upper respiratory infection and, after taking him to the vet, she prescribed this gel for him when I told her about his herpes diagnosis. I've been putting 2 pumps in his food every morning since and he is a new kitty! He's 10 years old now and acting like he did when he was 5. He has more energy and his eyes aren't weepy at all.It's funny - I get cold sores and take L-Lysine pills to keep from breakouts (and it works miracles) so...my kitty and I are on the same meds now! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works very well to treat herpes virus in cats *by K***. on Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2014* I foster cats and kittens and many of them come to me quite sick. I was skeptical at first of using lysine to treat the drippy nose and runny eyes in cats and kittens with feline herpes but now I'm a believer. It really works very well to eliminate the symptoms. This formula can be dispensed into a fine tipped medicine syringe and dosed that way. I guess some cats will llick it up but not many that I've worked with will do that, however for me the dosing with a medicine syringe in the side pouch of their mouth is quick and easy.One note, unless you have a chronic case that will need this on a permanent basis, you should keep the cat/kitten on it AT LEAST 2 weeks after the last symptom. I keep them on it a month just for extra protection against a relapse.Two people have written comments saying it's been proven that Lysine does not work for feline herpers. DON'T BELIEVE IT! I'm sure the comments are well intentioned but as someone who has fostered more that 200 cats & kittens over the last 10 years, I can tell you that lysine works on cats with herpes. Absolutely... positively... it works! Cats can have a variety of ailments with symptoms that are similar to herpes and in those cases, it won't make a difference; but it is a life changer for cats who do have herpes. You have to be patientc and get the dose right. Some cases might even require life long administration of the lysine but it DOES work. I haven't seen a difference between brands but personally, I like this brand because of the way it dispenses.
