They are easy to apply - there's no backing to remove and the glue just melts under the iron. I was worried about the glue so I used it through a towel. They are quite big, you'll only just fit both across your chest. The pictures are a medium t-shirt. Once on they don't stick amazingly well, but you could sew them on. I cannot see them lasting through a wash cycle otherwise, and I'm not even sure they would hold up even if they do get sewn on. The t-shirt is a tight synthetic sports one, so cotton might be different.
