This was really lightweight, more so than I thought it would be, and was quite thin. My first thought was that I needed to just return it and try for something else. My second thought was that maybe if I washed and dried it it would fluff up some. I was doubtful and not terribly surprised when it did not fluff up once it was washed, but I put it on the bed anyway.And then,...I snuggled under it with my three year old. Holy cow! This is the softest comforter ever! It is ridiculously soft! I just wanted to keep my face buried in it - and I can't stand things touching my face! And it was surprisingly comfortably warm.I am still amazed. I curled up in bed next to my little guy again this morning, when it was well below 0, and was so warm and comfortable I decided to stay in his bed!To give a little reference it was around -4 this morning, the fire had died out (which really is inconsequential as the heat doesn't really reach his room anyway), but suffice it to say we were very warm under his little comforter. This is NOT a heavy blanket of that is what you are looking for THIS IS NOT IT. This is a nice thin duvet insert. With it being so thin it was a little difficult to put a cover on so it did take me some time but I did manage. It came in a very protective package that was extremely air tight which made me feel like it was very protective and I really liked that. The hooks to tie the cover strings on seem to be strong.
