I bought a dehydrator after deciding that I could make some healthy natural chews and treats for my dogs, as well as for myself. I had never used a dehydrator and wanted to have some guidance and inspiration beyond what it offered in the pamphlet that comes with the machine. I chose this book because it looked like it contained some vital information, a slew of recipes across difference types of food items, and how to do it all. I was clueless, and this book helped me through some recipes, and how to do it, as well as the why on different practices. I keep this book with the machine. Good one to have!

Covers virtually anything that can be dried.  The information is more complete than can be found in the Ball guide (which is primarily canning, but includes drying and freezing), and I appreciated the fact that not only are there recipes for additional foods that can be dried, but recipes which used the dried foods themselves.  I recommended the book at a local farmer's market, and the proprietor told me today that she had gotten a copy for herself -- because she also preserves the same food she sells.
