## Description

A firsthand, behind-the-scene account of the controversies surrounding modern explorations at Giza • Investigates the recent scandals at Giza and claims of secret excavations and tunneling inside the Great Pyramid • Reveals the historical evidence in support of secret chambers in the Great Pyramid and beneath the Great Sphinx • Exposes the secret agendas behind the latest explorations on the Giza plateau Since 1993 Robert Bauval has been embroiled in the many controversies involving the search for the lost treasures of the pyramid builders and the quest for the legendary Hall of Records of Atlantis. The strange but true story that he unfolds implicates American business moguls, the prestigious National Geographic Society, several Ivy League universities, the Edgar Cayce Foundation, the Freemasons, Christian fundamentalists, Zionists, and the Egyptian government. In this fully updated edition of Secret Chamber , including new color photographs, Robert Bauval pursues his in-depth investigation of clandestine events at Giza and the role played by the controversial ex-Minister of Antiquities Dr. Zahi Hawass. What lies behind the mysterious doors at the end of the star shafts in the Great Pyramid? What do the mysterious inscriptions found behind the Gantenbrink door mean? What is the real purpose of the Relief Chambers and the red ochre “graffiti” in them? Who is behind the secretly tunneling and excavating in these chambers, and why? Is there really a hidden Hall of Records from Atlantis beneath the Great Sphinx? Is the Great Pyramid just a tomb or does it serve a higher purpose involving a lost science of immortality? Why do the ancient texts ascribe the Pyramid’s design to the supreme god of wisdom Thoth, the writer of the fabled Books of Hermes? Will the Great Pyramid prove to be the “missing link” to our true origins or a “metaphysical machine” to access the world beyond? Providing a firsthand account of the strange events that have taken place at the Giza plateau in the last three decades, Bauval reveals the hidden agendas behind these events and raises important questions about the meaning of Egypt’s ancient structures and the very origins of civilization.

Review: If you are a fan and like his impeccable life's work - Mr. Bauval has, very impressively, outdone himself once again. If you are a fan and like his impeccable life's work, you will absolutely LOVE this one. It has all the twists and turns of a first-rate detective novel combined with Robert's usual razor sharp and straight forward Egyptology, historical accuracy, world-class investigating and archaeology all wrapped up and served with staggering, and jolting revelations of the corruption, cronyism and deceit of the Egyptian governmental establishment in control of exploration and investigations at Giza. Loved it! Thank you Robert Bauval for your dedication to the truth and to the sciences.
Review: Great read but sometimes too much details - Really good book. You will learn a lot of things concerning the heritage of Ancient Egypt that we can find in the Hermetic belief and you will learn about the Pyramids and the reason behind them. The author as a very good style, you don't feel like an archaeological book but almost like a mystery book. He is also really precise, giving dates and names of people who attended a particular meeting 20 years ago. That's maybe the issue of this book. You expect to read something concerning the hidden chamber and the author speak about it, but only for 1/2 of the book. The other half concerns the author "beef" (fight) with Zahi Awass the former head of the Egyptian Antiquity Organisation and the different trips he made to the USA to attend some organisation meetings. I understand the needs to be precise but there should be a need to be concise as well. Do we really need to have all the details concerning the misunderstanding involving the German engineer who sent his robot through the Pyramid ventilation shaft and Mr Bauval? Do we need to read all the faxes they sent each others? Since the beginning of 2015 I have already read 3 of Mr Bauval books and all of them are really well written, we learn a lot about ancient Egypt and the way they worshiped stars but sometime he add too many details that are not directly linked to the book. So I gave 4 stars to this one because it was really instructive and quite good although there was stuff that didn't need to be there.

### ⭐⭐⭐ A history of historians
*by L***. on May 2, 2026*

This is an excellent review of the historians who have visited Egypt detailing all their challenges and their findings. I found it to be more about the quest than about the findings. There is very little new revealed here about ancient Egypt. Still, it's an immersive experience from the point of view of the persons doing the digging.
