Review: I really enjoy typing on this keyboard so I ordered another for work. - I'm a software engineer and can type anywhere from 85 - 110 WPM and those who code know the challenge of hitting special characters frequently; I should never miss a ; end line now :). I use to use an apple wireless keyboard with the chiclet style keys extensively the past several years and didn't realize that was slowing down my typing. I actually purchased this keyboard for gaming at home but then bought another for work since I noticed a huge improvement in my typing speed. The reason I didn't purchase a mechanical keyboard is due to the windows vs command key. The only mechanical keyboard I've found that has the command key is a das keyboard that is > $100 which is way over budget; can get 3 of these awesome keyboards for the price of one das. I've gotten use to using the windows key as the command with my pinky rather than the left thumb on command. I use both windows and mac so the switch has been great and it took a couple days to get use to replacing the thumb for command and using pinky for it but it has also made my windows typing much better since I use my pinky for windows anyway. For those who can't give up their mac specific keyboard should look into buying one of these since you will make it work due to how awesome the keys feel. It's identical to the more expensive cherry ones. I won't feel bad if this keyboard breaks a year later since it's only $30 and the ones that have the common cherry switches cost > $50. The apple wireless keyboard is double the price of this... # Pros - Identical to cherry switch that other more expensive keyboards use such as Das. - Increased my typing speed by at least 15 WPM. - Tactile feedback you do not get with chiclet style keyboards. - Solid and quality made. It's heavy so it won't move around the desk. Has nice grippy rubber pads too. - Don't have to switch between the apple wireless keyboard and the windows keyboard since I use the same one off the KVM now. - I don't have to recharge and replace the batteries in the wireless apple keyboard since this is corded. Got so sick of replacing batteries just to have wireless when it's going to sit on the desk anyway so it was pointless. The apple keyboard would lose connection with the bluetooth too so again, it was pointless. - Compact size is better than a full size keyboard. Removing the number pad provides a better ergonomic experience which prevent strains due to widening the arms with the mouse. Research this if you don't believe me. Some ergonomic keyboards put the number pad on the left side of the keyboard. - Best bang for the buck. Amazing value so I purchased 2 of them. Perhaps all the big brands such as Das will lower their price since this one seems to own the desertcart market right now. It's 2018, people who are sane know that a mechanical keyboard shouldn't cost > $100. C'mon, the IBM Model M in the 1980's original price was around $250 but that's some dated technology! It's like paying the same price for an OLED TV for a tube tv. Who they trying to fool and that is why Redragon is here. They know the other manufacturers are price gouging. # Cons - None so far. # Neutral - My coworkers find it distracting since it's loud but they can put headphones on. A mechanical keyboard is... loud. - Noticed some sound interference with my Logitech speaker setup at home. It sounds kind of cool because the breathing effect will also output in the speaker. Breathing will make it sound like a badass intro to a sci-fi action scene (think star wars lightsaber) and the solid light will make an ongoing high pitch noise. This is probably an issue with the KVM I use to switch between mac and pc. I don't have this issue with the pc but when I switch it over to the mac the interference occurs.
Review: Good buy in 2026f - Not a bad keyboard, even in 2026. As long as the noise levels isn't a dealbreaker with you, the switches sound good and the keyboard is responsive. This keyboard is known for being a reliable tank, at a good price. The stabs aren't bad, maybe it's masked by the blue switch noise. Colors are nice and bright. It's a excellent buy for 30$, but once over 40, I'd advice looking into the Aula F75, especially if you aren't into Clicky switches, as the Aula doesn't provide anything other than Linear options but those linear options are better than the linear option for the redragon k552. Keyboard is a buy it and it just works.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this one of those keyboards that has the really satisfying clicking when you type? I felt one at best buy and I loved it**
A: There are 2 distinct aspects to this: There is an audible click like the Cherry Blue-s or their clones. Depending on the switch used. the keyboard and the keycap, this may start out really pleasing, or you ( or your frields at the next desk)
may get tired of it. Then there is a tactile bump. Most people like this. The sound itself has 2 components: The click, which is high pitched, and the "tock" as the key is hitting the keybed. This is a flat, unpleasant sound to most.
The click and the tock combine into a single noise as you hit the key(s) typically pretty fast. So you end up with a "Thck" sound.
After a while, some people who like the Cherry blue type clicky keyboards end up wanting something tactile, but a bit quieter. I found through experimentation, that I can eliminate the 2nd component, the bottom-out "tock" by adding o-rings to the keycap stems.
Either a 0.4mm. or double 0.2mm rings. This brings the Cherry blue sound into a more civilized and pleasant realm. This is where I am at, Tried some quiet tactile switches , e.g. Halo Clear-s , and those are not tactile enough for me. I modeified a couple of keybpards ) A coolermaster 10kless
that came with genuine cherry blues, and the K552 ( which came with the Outemu blue Cherry mx blue clones. Added the o-rings, and the result is quite satisfying. Still clicky, but overall more quiet and pleasant sounding. The Captain O-ring 0.4mm blue o-rings qoeked well for me.
Talking abuot sounds, the K552 ( and also its full size brother, the K551) adds a metallic ringing echo to the key sound.

**Q: Is there a way to toggle the lights? only half my keyboard lights up. the qwerasdgb keys are backlight. did i toggle something accidentally?**
A: This is most likely a "mode". Fn+INS cycles through the 9 modes.
Fn+PgUp resets all current settings, including both custom presets or schemes, current mode, and current backlight level.

This is specific to the model K552-KR. The model is printed on the back of the keyboard, and I received the K552-KR (Kumara) from the listing for the black keyboard.

One of the modes is "Zone-Defined". In this mode, pressing Fn and a number key (0-9) cycles through 8 predefined zone modes, and two custom modes.

The custom ones are Fn+9 and Fn+0.

When the keyboard is first plugged in, and the mode is cycled to "Zone-Defined", it defaults to the first preset, Fn+1, "First Person Shooter mode" where the only Esc, WASD, and Arrow keys are lit.

With the mode set to "Zone-Defined", and either Fn+9 or Fn+0 set, press Fn+Home to start recording a custom scheme or preset. To indicate the keyboard is in recording mode, the Caps Lock and Scroll Lock lights on the Redragon badge on the right side of the keyboard will pulse.

While recording, press any key to turn the backlight on for that key. Press again to turn it off.

The color and brightness can not be set individually for this model, only whether it's on or off.

Press Fn+End to save the preset.

Note that the backlight on the Fn is toggled as Fn+End is pressed, so if you don't want the Fn key to be lit in this preset, press it once to turn it on, the press Fn+End to save the preset, and in so doing, the backlight for the Fn key will be turned off just before saving it.

Fn+Up/Down brightens and dims the light for every key simultaneously.

Fn+Left/Right slows down and speeds up the rate of some of the animations in the different modes.

Fn+W toggles "left hand mode, where the function of WASD is swapped with the Up, Left, Down, and Right arrow keys. Pressing again swaps the function of the four letter keys and the direction keys again.

Fn+Windows toggles whether pressing the Windows key sends a Windows key keypress or not, but does not disable animations or backlight for the key.

Fn+F12 toggles "lockout mode", which disables the keyboard, so that pressing any keys or combination of keys does not send any keypresses to whatever it's plugged into. The keyboard still responds to the key combinations mentioned above.

**Q: Please someone give me some details about the Reddragon K552 KUMARA mechanical keyboard, build / feel / overall performance? thanks!**
A: It's sturdy AF and kinda heavy so it doesn't slide around your desk. I've had mine for several months now and haven't noticed any issues. It is very satisfying to type on. I really enjoy the clicky blue switches. I play all sorts of games including FPSs and unlike the other person who answered it doesn't bother me at all to play games on this awesome KB. I've been told by coworkers that I'm NOT light/gentle on my keyboard but I also type hella fast. If you type fast and aren't light on the fingers this KB will create a noticeable din. The RGB is well lit and I had fun playing with all the light features including the one memory slot to completely customize every single keycap's light. You cannot custom animate the light for each key but the pre-installed options available seem plenty since you can cycle through all the colors including one option for all the colors and this works well on all the different animations. For example, there's a matrix style 'rain' animation which you could keep as classic green or the other several colors available, OR you can go all colors in which case you'll see the rain animation but each drop is changing color as it moves down the keys and the lingering/fading trails are also going through RGB.

**Q: What is the exact usb cable length?**
A: It’s 6ft 3 inches

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good buy in 2026f
*by C***S on February 4, 2026*

Not a bad keyboard, even in 2026.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Do not pass this up
*by J***D on July 20, 2016*

I didn't buy this keyboard for gaming. I am a college student and I enjoy typing on a mechanical keyboard. I have been using this Keyboard for around a week with my MacBook Pro. Once I opened the box I was enlightened by the weight of it. Its not too heavy and it's not too light. Seems like the right amount. The build quality is great at this price point. The plastic seems strong and sturdy. I did a flex test and little to no flexing. I haven't taken it apart but it feels like they have a metal plate inside for structural support and what gives this little guy that extra needed weight. The plastic for the key caps seem a little thin to me. When typing on the keyboard you can feel the quality of the caps. Slightly thicker keys would make this product perfect for me. The switches are great! I am no expert at all but from what I have read they compare to Cherry MX Blues. These switches are very loud. I live alone so I don't have to worry about disturbing anyone. This switches are of great quality in my opinion. They feels sturdy and they do not seem cheap. The led lights are great and it makes this keyboard look sexy. Each key has its own led and they are bright enough for everyday use. I do like how you can adjust the brightness of the light or you can just turn them off. I have noticed the LEDs will not stay at your setting once you turn your computer on. You will need to adjust it every time. Overall I am happy with my purchase and would recommend this keyboard to anyone looking to save a few dollars.
