However, it's not quite what I expected. I expected a book explaining how towns are designed, how they evolve, how many people make up a town vs. how many guards there are per person, how many of each type of building a medieval town has, and so forth. This book focuses mostly on how to draw specific types of buildings and town geography from a bird's eye view for maps, complete with what drawing tools are best, along with step-by-step instructions. It does explain a little bit about how towns develop, but I'd say this book as a whole is for middle school kids and teenagers interested in map cartography. I was hoping for a more in-depth look for adults. Again, though, for what this book is, it's wonderful. Just be aware it's not a super complex in-depth look that advanced map makers might be looking for.
