It wouldn't be safe to place a newborn in there, because the baby can easily slide under and suffocate under this blanket. Even if you were to swaddle or wrap the outside the blanket with something, it's too thick to "capture" the baby so it can't slide down. It really made me uncomfortable seeing this blanket being sold as a swaddle sleeping blanket for a baby. I hope nobody suffers a terrible accident with this!!!Then speaking of the actual material - it doesn't feel nice. It's kind of flimsy and low quality.
