The Japanese have been using them for hundreds of years to great effect. In private homes, Japanese norens are used to separate rooms and doorways, while in businesses they are used with the intention of denoting the specialty of the shop. At restaurants, Japanese norens serve to create a sense of privacy for the customers. Besides having a practical function, Japanese norens are also meant to add an air of beauty to any space. I bought the trees (with small cat) version and it's lovely. The material is more substantial than the polyester ones I had previously. This one is more like a woven cotton - not smooth like sheets but not overly rough either. The edges are nicely stitched and the door opening is pre-cut and hemmed almost all the way to the top. The last few inches at the top of the opening were sewn together, but it was easy to snip it apart to separate the curtain into 2 pieces. I hung this on a simple 38" sash rod placed above my door frame rather than hanging a rod inside the frame. It looks great hung this way and it kept my woodwork intact. I'm very pleased with this purchase! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ it is nice with light fragrance *by R***P on Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2021* ### ⭐⭐⭐ Not symmetrical *by L***A on Reviewed in the United States on May 10, 2020* Although I love this noren the only problem is that one side is about 1 inch longer than the other. I don’t see a way to contact the seller. Otherwise I would ask for an exchange. --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.tn/products/83736061-noren-japanese-doorway-curtain-59-by-33-inch-home-decorative](https://www.desertcart.tn/products/83736061-noren-japanese-doorway-curtain-59-by-33-inch-home-decorative) --- *Product available on Desertcart Tunisia* *Store origin: TN* *Last updated: 2026-10-14*
