The depth is advertised as 2 ", but since the saucer sides are at about a 45 degree angle, the water depth can be between 1" - 1 1/4" if not filled to overflowing, yet when the birds are standing on the rim, the water is available to drink, and if they choose, when they jump in they won't be floating around, and can splash around while their feet are on the bottom for support. Very heavy duty, very solid, and super high quality. Should have used this in the past instead of the heavy glass bird bath that shattered into pieces when a squirrel through it off balance and it fell to the ground.
