Yes, it doesn't go any higher than 50 degrees but remember your dog has a body temperature higher than yours. And they lay on it so over time they'll grow hot. My dog gave birth to a litter of puppies in mid-Nov. So I bought this to keep them warm. I made the mistake of setting it at 50 and a few hours later the puppies were crying and I found them all trying to crawl away off the pad. I set it 35 and they love it.
