The liturgy is the substance of justification as it is brought through means. This book is an introduction to the liturgy and its importance. It takes the liturgy and makes it easy for the layperson to understand that the New Testament church service brings God's presence, in Jesus the Christ to the people of God who have been cleansed from their sins. This is a holy meeting made possible by the blood of Christ that cleanses the believer. This understanding of the church service helps one to understand that the church service is more than a meeting place; it is the manifestation of the New Testament church on earth as Christ calls His bride around Word and Sacraments. Heaven on Earth will deepen your understanding of the Divine Service and why it remains the Church's chief worship service. Review: A Must-Have for Those New to Lutheranism - This is an excellent book for anyone looking to understand the following: (1). The nature of Christian liturgy (Definition). (2). The origins of historic liturgy in the Old and New Testaments. (3). The early church history of Christian liturgy/development and its impact on our liturgy today. (4). The development of Christian liturgy in conservative Lutheranism. (5). Some of the questions/issues of bringing the significance of the historic liturgy to bear for people living in a postmodern context. It is also useful for anyone looking to love the liturgy more. The author fosters in the reader a sense of reverence and fidelity for the ancient tradition, and everything he writes about in the liturgy is Christocentric (the whole liturgy is Christocentric!). Further, his handle on the Gospel of Luke is evident. I would recommend this book to anyone who is serious about living their life around the Divine Service (Lutheran Sunday worship services), where Jesus gives us His gifts. I would recommend this book to anyone who is concerned with the historic liturgy in the early church and how it developed. I would especially recommend this book for those coming into Lutheranism from non-liturgical traditions. Review: This is a great Book! - Let me confess I am a big fan of Dr. Just and own all his books. His series on Luke is tremendous. Luke 1:1-9:50 (Concordia Commentary) Luke 9:51-24:53 (Concordia Commentary) . With Heaven On Earth Dr. Just has risen to a new level and taken his readers with him. Heaven On Earth traces the historic Liturgy back to the days of Christ. He shows how the Liturgy has sustained the church through persecution, heresy, wars, famine, plague and even divisions within the church. And then reminds us to take that Body of Christ when we leave the church and share it generously. I will be buying copies of this book to give as presents. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Best Sellers Rank | #616,468 in Books ( See Top 100 in Books ) #81 in Lutheran Christianity (Books) #373 in Christian Rites & Ceremonies Books | | Customer Reviews | 4.8 out of 5 stars 73 Reviews | ## Images ![Heaven on Earth: The Gifts of Christ in the Divine Service - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71OwHLhNHsL.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Must-Have for Those New to Lutheranism *by P***K on December 28, 2025* This is an excellent book for anyone looking to understand the following: (1).
