I put the heat pack inside of a Snuggle Puppy stuffed animal so that the heat pack was NOT directly in contact with my puppy. The heat pack worked very well inside of the stuffed animal. I used them every night until my puppy was about two months old. (This was during the winter.) **Q: How are these any different than a hand warmer?** A: The warming packs are very similar. Technically I don’t know the difference. I’m not sure how warm the hand warmers are but these don’t get real hot. Because our puppy came home to us in January and was only about 7 weeks old. I used them for a few weeks in his comfort dog. Then I stopped using them, used just the dog with the little heartbeat mechanism for another month. Sparky whines for 15 minutes the first night and has not whined again.
