I have upgraded the vice as that is by far the weakpoint of these tools, but everything else that comes in the kit is passable-good quality. I bought this kit as a newer fly angler curious about fly tying but didn't want to break the bank, I was able to learn enough about tying to learn that I liked it and invested in a higher quality vice. I highly recommend this kit as a great value starter kit to anybody interested in fly tying, knowing that over time you will want to upgrade tools. The first upgrades from this kit are a higher quality vice (particularly a true rotary) and better scissors.

**Q: Will this hold a Gamakatsu 4/0 x 3/8oz Jig Head?**
A: Yes

**Q: Will this vise head fit large saltwater hooks?**
A: I’ve tied up to an 8/O with it for 4oz buck tails but it’s a bit difficult. You really need to crank down on the vice. It may be worth spending the extra $ on one designed for larger hooks.

**Q: Can the vise and base be removed from the case?  If so, is the base heavy enough to not move around when tying flies?**
A: No....the vise including base stay case.....it was very convenient to use and having your tools right next to the vise. I tied over 500 flies over 3 months for the trip I took in may.....it did a great job 👍👍

the vice is fixed inside the box. I wish the base was removable. other than that, everything is great great quality and very clean.
