## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can this be used as an On/Off switch for recording?**
A: That depends on the device, to which the NP-1 is connected. The NP-1 is a standard momentary footswitch (normally used as a Sustain pedal) but when connected to the footswitch input on a Panorama P1 it can be used to activate recording in a DAW application. The NP-1 will work with any device with an input for a momentary footswitch.

**Q: Would this be compatible with my boss rc-30 loop station?**
A: I haven't tested the RC-30 but that device expects a non-latching (momentary) footswitch, so it should work.

**Q: Does this sustain pedal works with Williams Allegro 2?**
A: As far as I'm concerned, this pedal works well with Roland, Yamaha, and Casio. I recently checked out the specs on the Williams Alegro keyboard and they have exactly the same outputs as any midi keyboard. It has a 1/4 Jack input-so yes. Best of luck.

**Q: I want the circuit to be closed ("on") when not pressing the switch, and to be open ("off") only when i press the foot switch. will the np-1 do this?**
A: Yes, the switch next to the cable on the back of the pedal allows your to switch between normally open and normally closed operation.

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nektar NP-1 & NP-2. Great pedals! Don't overthink it.
*by on Reviewed in the United States July 17, 2019*

I first bought the NP-1, since I needed a sustain pedal for my Alesis VI-49. It works great but it's really light and goes sliding all over the place. It really works better as an ON/OFF switch and not something to be articulated. It also takes some decent force to press down, so I found myself using the ball of my foot rather than my toes. The construction is really solid, though, so I'm confident in Nektar's quality. The NP-1 just doesn't have much of a use right now in my setup, but I'll keep it around just in case.So I went ahead and picked up the NP-2. This is a GREAT no-nonsense pedal. It's nice and hefty and stays in place even on the short pile rug beneath my desk. Nice durable rubber pad all along the bottom. I can't speak to the lifespan of the pedal as I've only had it for 24 hours, but my first impression is that it will last a long time. And hey, it's $20 bucks. If it breaks I'll just get a new one.(The big NP-2 also has a polarity switch, which the little NP-1 lacks. I can make the little one "work" as a sustain pedal but I have to power up my keyboard in a certain way to get the right polarity. Having a switch just gets rid of that minor headache, and when it comes to playing & creating music, the less headaches the better!)Speaking of price, do yourself a favor: Unless you REALLY need a tiny pedal, just grab the NP-2 instead of the NP-1. It's only five bucks more but you're getting ten times the quality and usefulness.Or get both, and return the one you don't like! :)(UNRELATED NOTE: To any person who is going through a hard time right now, try your best to remember that life is only a ride. Take it easy on yourself, take it easy on other people. Earth can be a harsh place to live, but we can help each other if we forget what makes us different and remember what makes us similar. We live moment to moment, and if you can make it through this day, that's actually quite a victory. Close your eyes and breathe. We're here until we're not.)

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Solid Product! Identical to the M-Audio only possible downside is the cable is attached and only 6ft
*by on Reviewed in the United States August 23, 2021*

Works well, solid metal build should be gig worthy, good size, I have used it as a piano expression pedal as well as a MIDI trigger to start my looper in Ableton, I was considering attaching to my pedalboard, the bottom is just a rubber pad you could easily replace with hook and loop tape.Only thing that may be a pro or con depending is the cable is attached and only 6 foot long. This may be convent for some to not have to worry about needing an extra cable if you are using as a sustain pedal with a keyboard 6 foot should be appropriate.... However if you want to use this to trigger MIDI (eg: to loop a bass or guitar ) you may want to place it further then 6 foot from your controller in witch case you will be tethered to your controller and may not be ideal for stage.I wish I could give 4 1/2 stars because of the length limitations, but the product is good and works as advertised so I'm going 5 I would just prefer it if you could use your own cable of choice. With all that said I also purchased the M-Audio version and they are IDENTICAL with the exception of the brand name on the rubber!!!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's all good
*by on Reviewed in the United States February 18, 2019*

I was brought up on piano, and have played on and off since the 1940s. I dabbled with electronic keyboards in the early 1990s, but at that time used one of those clicky footswitches as a sustain pedal. I'm starting again, with a Roland RD-700 stage piano, and wanted to get a real pedal this time. The Nektar fills the bill. It feels like a piano pedal, and the result is a good sound. That should be enough, but I'd like to compliment the NP-2 on a few things that could be issues.Let me express disagreement with the reviewer who said it doesn't work on a carpet. My living room has a carpet -- rather thick, in fact -- and I was worried about this. I shouldn't have worried. It works fine on my carpet. The polarity switch is a big plus here. The RD-700 requires a polarity just the opposite of what I expected. In fact, my old clicky footswitch was an inverse sustain; it sustained without the pedal, and dropped the sustain when I pressed it. Couldn't fix it for that pedal, but it was routine and easy with the Nektar; just throw the built-in switch.I can't comment on durability. I haven't had this for long enough. It is going to stay in the living room home studio, so I don't expect any problem. It's not like I'm touring or gigging out with it. If it fails, its durability will be have to be very poor indeed.BTW, I got two of them. My son has the other, and his kids, my grandkids, will be learning on a Yamaha electronic piano using it. Knowing the twins, it better be durable. :)Bottom line: I'm very happy with my purchase.
