The theory is that it can output 5v to switch a SSR, to therefore switch a more demanding load. Practice does not meet theory, even the most limited low power SSR cannot be switched by any of the SmartSolar controllers, the output signal voltage drops to 2.1v even at 1mA. Victron is pretty hopeless about helping use this gizmo, and the Victron forums only suggest designing a switch using a power transistor. What a nuisance... Hardly worth the high cost of their units. Or you could buy one of their battery savers, but they are hideously expensive and very limited in what they can do.So after many hours looking at amazon listings, i finally ran across this little widget. I ordered with a hope i could make it work, and after shorting out the LED, it works a charm. Easily switches with the weak SmartSolar output signal.The assembly is clean and simple, there are no instructions provided, but the data printed on the PCB is sufficient to use it. You do not need to ground both sides of the "-" terminal if you don't want to. A common ground from the output side is sufficient if you only need to switch the positive line.This item would be totally perfect if it had a jumper to bypass the LED, instead of having to remove it and add a solder short. Jumper in bypass, jumper out LED, would make this thing a total gem.
