Review: Brighter than the CFL this replaced - Been using this bulb for two weeks now so I can't attest to longevity, but compared to the CFL it replaced, I can say that it's definitely a little brighter. And most amazing to me is even after it's been on a while, you can still touch the bulb (don't do it though!), it doesn't get all that hot. The base on the other hand gets screaming hot so I hope that's normal. Do read the packaging to make sure it's something you can use where you're intending to use it. I was considering trying this in an enclosed light fixture but it was an desertcart review, and not the packaging I should have read, that altered me that these bulbs can't be used in that way. Good to know! Since I like the brightness of these bulbs I'm considering buying two more to replace two CFL 100W equivalents (for two lamps). My hope is they'll maybe make a tiny difference on the electric bill. The CFL's did, so perhaps these LED bulbs will too. I like how they look like a regular bulb and the how the light distribution (in a lamp with a lampshade) is similar to the CFL (and incandescent for that matter). Great price (just under ten dollars), good light, now I'll hope they last a while.
Review: I use it for macro photography-1/3 stop more light than my Philips 100w soft white incandescent. - That's according to exposure settings to get the same results with the bulb pressed up against the lens barrel. Due to its small size, spotlight characteristic and low heat the Philips LED makes for comfortable shooting to get the sharpest results for the $9.97 I paid at my local Home Depot. However, closeup shots of organic material such as food/skin requires color correcting due to this bulb not being full spectrum. Shooting metal and plastic objects is less a problem. What makes this bulb better than CFL's for photography is its intense museum halogen like spotlight quality over fluorescent's diffused glow which tends to reduce detail and definition. Clarity would be a better description for the light quality of the Philip's LED output. As for the amount of light the 3000K "Bright White" Philips LED perceptually fills my 12x18 living room with a lot of bright, beautiful low saturated amber light in a dispersed fanned out pattern that reaches to the opposite corners of the entire room even when placed behind my home audio speaker in the opposite corner of the room. I can make out detail on my matte black metal fireplace on the far side of the room. Just the right amount of dim warm light from one bulb is a pleasant surprise from such a small LED bulb. Also the base on mine doesn't heat up as much as other LED bulb brands of the same light output and design. I like this bulb so much I bought another one here on desertcart because it's now only available on Home Depot's online store or else I have to pay over $20 at their brick & mortar for a Philips LED or other brand of the same light output but different design. What's up with the oddball pricing discrepancies on these bulbs?

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Brighter than my incandesant 60W.
*by J***T on June 18, 2014*

Once installed, these were brighter than my incandescent 60W bulbs. I have two identical chandeliers hanging in my kitchen and dining area. I replaced one full set on one fixture with these Philips LED's. On the other side were the standard 60W incandescent. The difference is quite noticeable. This lite is much more "white" my incandescent appear yellow when compared to the LED's. I didn't think they were "yellow" before but now I see that in fact they were. My only complaint is that these don't light all the way around evenly, they are dimmer at the base because of the white plastic housing. So in my kitchen it looks like the tops of the cabinets are in a more dimly lit area, where as before the incandescent lit up the whole room evenly albeit yellow-ly. That is why they have 4 stars instead of 5. Also the price is a little steep but had they lit the top portion of my kitchen as evenly as the bottom they would have received a full 5 stars. Now I have tried CFL's which claimed to outlast incandescent lights... but I have had AWFUL results with their longevity. over 50% fail in the first year. That is not good odds. These LED's CLAIM to last 18 years on the package however the warranty is only good for 3 years. But you can bet I wrote all the info down and saved it because if these fail early I NEED a refund. These suckers are very expensive at nearly $10 apiece.
