It is a subject I had no knowledge on, but after reading this book I have gained a good working knowledge of the condition, and can understand who was deemed to be an attention seeking problem child, and able to identify behavioural traits that were previously a mystery to us in our home. My spouse and our child of 16 years are working together through the understanding we have gained, and are able to interact not only together, but with the therapists that we deal with. This understanding brings empathy into the process, and tolerance and frankness as a balance of dealing with a complex situation that impacts the family as a whole. What is good about this book is that it is not a theoretical dissertation on a subject that may be taboo to many, but a relevant explanation of the condition for which no one is to be blamed, and in the long term can have drastic results, such as suicide. Real life examples are used to explain the pattern of behaviour that may be experienced, and how this is practically dealt with, both at home and clinic level. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Parents, My Heart Goes Out to You *by K***O on Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2017* What we've found as parents searching for the best, the best life we could provide our daughter is... in the end, all the effort, the education we learned, the multiple psychiatrists our daughter saw, the drugs that are currently available, the counseling, the police, juvenile detention, the books we've read, the people we've talked to, trading stories with other parents in the same boat, the church, the activities, mother nature, camping, boating, learning to drive, giving and taking away freedoms, long hours of silence and frustration, praying to God, middle of the night running away, not even sports, well.... none of these things helped my daughter. She failed or dropped out of everything. She attended 9th grade 3 times, and still didn't pass. I am so sorry for other parents currently going through this, grasping at ANYTHING that promises hope. and doing e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g in their power to help their child. It isn't even a money thing. We found assistance even without much money. Our child is nineteen now. Some things improve with time, age, and maturity, but some things remain. She has not been able to hold a job for more than a day since the age of sixteen. It's sad that even work experience will escape her and possibly effect her life for years to come. She associates with the lowest common denominator of people, others who have no aspirations, goals, trust, or worthiness. Her boyfriends are a nightmare. Some have never been allowed in our home. It's so very sad. Not even a partner helps. She spins through friendships, gaining a friend, then getting screwed by that friend. She is a better friend than what she receives.
