We followed the directions to the letter, let the water boil about a minute (whistling teapot), then after two days soaking, we got a perfectly spikey crystal hedgehog! We used a flashlight to monitor crystal growth while it was submerged, because the liquid is so dark, even the flashlight on my phone couldn't shine all the way through, but you could see crystals sparkling. Crystals also grew on its face, but they cleaned off easily. They also grew as a carpet all over the floor of the container.
