I was pleasantly surprised to find that it's actually a hard plastic shell that the Kindle snaps into, with a magnetic closure that triggers a sleep/wake response when closed or opened. The outside is a dyed and inked leather that's molded to the plastic shell. The inside of the front cover is a fine microfiber lining to protect the screen. It would be nice bonus if the back portion of the case had the same microfiber lining on the inside, but I don't think it's a bad thing without it. The case looks fantastic and is true to the images, fits my Kindle perfectly, and feels wonderful in my hands. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another for my next Kindle.
