The old control valve wouldn't keep the pilot light on. But after troubleshooting the problem, I decided to replace the control valve. In the process of the replacing the control valve, I also clean and adjust the other parts that connected to the pilot light assembly. It was not hard to replace. It work perfectly now. Review: Great product - Worked great the first time it was fired up in my 1980's gas fireplace. As with most gas valves, the instructions are intense and must be followed exactly- so be ready for a tough read through before you even think of installing this unit yourself. Otherwise, it worked first time and a number of times over the past month. Highly recommended. Oh, and my unit it is the exact same excellent quality as the original unit we replaced.
