(Hello, Carrier? These weird sizes are not cool.)Unlike what you'll find at big box stores, these filters don't come with fancy graphics or a printed casing. But don't let their Plain Jane appearance fool you. They are sturdy and well-made. I spent some time poking around in HVAC forums before purchasing because I was a little worried about the MERV rating. You see, normally, I'd spring for the highest MERV: I have a house full of pets and I need all the MERV I can get, right? Well, maybe not. Turns out MERV is good for filtering, but a MERV that's right around 8 is better for your A/C unit. (Or so I have read.) So, since these were available in MERV 8 only, I decided to give them a try.It's now months later, and I can happily report that not only do the filters work well, they actually LOWERED MY A/C BILL. In Florida. In the heat of summer. I was (and still am) shocked. I'm going to assume it's the MERV rating and the filter construction. Our new A/C unit had already lowered our bill, but switching to this filter actually lowered it further. They also hold up for 3 months each. I probably could have stretched the last filter's life a bit longer, but, as I mentioned, I have pets. And lots of pet hair.The only con I'll give these filters is that when you first place them in, they whistle a tiny bit as the air flow breaks them in. A minor, negligible thing.
