## Overview

The Medium Gankogui is a hand-forged African agogo bell from Ghana and Togo, crafted by traditional blacksmiths. Featuring a stacked brass design and a natural wooden striker, it delivers a brighter, distinctive tone ideal for percussion ensembles and cultural ceremonies. Compact and versatile, it offers authentic sound with easy maintenance, making it a must-have for musicians seeking genuine African percussion instruments.

## Description

Made in Togo and Ghana by blacksmiths using hand bellows and rudimentary forges. Since each bell is hand-forged, each will have its own unique tone. The sizes will also vary slightly: average length 10 to 11", with the smaller bell about 2.75" diameter and the larger bell about 3.5" diameter. Traditionally used to mark the beat for ceremonies, this bell is one of the most important parts of many percussion ensembles. Easily hand held; or ready for stand attachment (use your own stand and hardware). Produces various open and closed sounds; try dampening the bell against your leg while you play. Please note: this agogo bell will be prone to rust, due to the material used and the climate in which it is stored. To remove any rust build-up, the manufacturer recommends using 0000 (very fine) steel wool to rub over the bell for a few seconds; then wipe the bell off with a soft cloth. About 2 minutes per bell is all that is needed to remove any surface rust, but be aware that a reddish tone may remain on the bell (this is not harmful in any way). Alternately, the bell can be painted to prevent rust. It is NOT recommended to rub oil on the surface of the bell to prevent rust, since residual oil can stain clothing and hands when the bell is played. If oil is used, be sure to use a very small amount and wipe it off well once it has been applied.

Review: Great sound and authentic usability - I bought this instrument to accompany a choir that was singing African style music. It’s so nice to have an actual African bell as opposed to a cowbell or some other form of instrument that does not align with the actual culture. It is everything I hoped it would be and was not expensive and I would recommend this to anyone looking for the same kind of instrument.
Review: Another great percussion instrument from Ghana - Another great percussion instrument from Ghana! These are handmade bells with a sweet sound that cuts right through on top of the drums, without having to play them hard. The stick they provided was a stick right off a tree, but works fine as it is hard wood. Good stuff from a good company doing good in Africa.
