A: Whole screen is encased in plastic

A: I am not sure, but I believe that the water protection is given by the smartphone itself and not by the protective cover.

**Q: Is this a water proof case???**
A: No.  That is one reason I returned the one I got.

**Q: Why are their weird colored scrarches all around my screen?**
A: First, your question is not clearly written. What is the word "theirs" refer to?  Second: You do not state if the scratches came with the otterbox from the start or showed up after the unit was installed.  If they came with the scratches, you should have sent the unit back in order to receive  a proper unit unblemished.
