I found three scenarios where it became very useful.1) This adaptor is the only way I was able to mirror a video from my phone onto a TV or monitor while I keep the audio routed to my wireless headphone via bluetooth. This allowed me to watch a show on TV/monitor while I exercise on a noisy trademill. If do not want the audio to disturb others nearby or you do not want noise disturb your audio listining, this is the best solution.2) When I travel, I was not able to make my Chromecast use the Hotel WiFi. The most reliable way of watching videos from YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc was by mirroring my phone to the hotel TV using this adptor.3) This device allows me to watch downloaded or local video on any monitor/TV that has an HDMI, without the need for WiFi. This was handy when I travel overseas and I do not have internet access. I was able to share video and pictures, from my phone's memory or a memory card, with friends and families.My Samsung Galaxy S9 and LG G5 phones support DisplayPort Alternate Mode; therefore, they worked with this adptor. My daughter's Pixel 3 did not work with the adaptor. Based on online info, Pixel phones do not support DisplayPort Alternate Mode.Original ReviewI use this hub to plug in my phone and watch video from Amazon Prime, Netflix, or YouTube videos on a hotel room TV whenever I travel. I have tried to cast using Chromecast and it did work with the hotel room WiFi network. I don't know if the hotel is intentionally blocking castng. This device is connected to my phone's USB C port. It mirrors my LG G5 phone to my computer monitor or a TV using an HDMI cable. I also connected a power supply to the hub and it charged the phone correctly, while it did the video mirroring at the same time. The phone showed as charging and the phone's power level increased while watching a movie on a connected monitor.Note that when you first connect this device to your Android phone, a USB dialog box appears asking you to select the mode for the phone. You have to select the option for charging. If you select the phone USB connection for "Power Supply", the phone will try to power up the connected device instead of charging.Note that your phone must have a USB C port and it must support DisplayPort Alternate Mode for this device to mirror the phone on a TV or computer monitor. It works on my LG G5 phone.I did some more research on using Chromcast and my phone's data plan for watching online content while I am travelling, instead. I was able to cast Netflix, YouTube, or PrimeVideo content by setting up Chromecast to use my phone's WiFi hotspot which, in turn, used my phone's data plan. However, to initially setup Chromecast with my phone as WiFi hotspot, I had to use two phones where one was setup as a WiFi hotspot and the second phone was used to run google Home app for settingup the Chromecast. Once initial setup is complete, I only needed one phone and the Chromecast to cast Netflix or YouTube to a TV. A little research suggests this is something to do with the i7-8550U. Not sure if that's a thing or not, but I figured I'd give this a try. (Will eventually get an eGpu, but for now the Intel integrated graphics are good enough).Connected this to my Razer Blade Stealth and works. My Samsung TV shows 4K @ 60hz. No flickering while gaming.So if you want an inexpensive single HDMI solution + PD, this works as advertised. I accidentally ordered it twice, but given how it works, I'll keep one on my desk and one in my backpack since I travel most weeks.Only used it for 5 hours give or take gaming, but I've noticed no issues in that time, whereas using the same cable, came TV, but the HDMI port, it will black out a few seconds several times an hour.I'll be getting the second one on November 20th.
