You can hold things out of the oven for long enough to get them onto a trivet without burning your hands. I was disappointed in their size as I ordered small for my grandson who is 12 and loves to cook, but the small size is huge the same as the other sizes. I wanted my grandson to have the same protection as we have, but they do not come up small enough. Even for a woman the sizes are huge.
