The other side is metric, centimetres millimetres but strangely enough no markings for metres! and this extends to 800cm which equals 8 Metres. When this is pulled out it holds but it can be released by either of 2 buttons one on the top and one underneath. This has a magnetic hook that with one hand I pushed against a radiator and extended the measure and this held well, a good feature.
