My dishwasher broke and we had to order the model we wanted. We were also going on vacation, so it ended up being about a month before we got our dishwasher. Since I am short and have to stand so close to the sink, I always get wet when I do dishes by hand. These aprons solved that problem. Also they are perfect when I give my dog a bath. When he shakes or when I have to pick him up, it's no problem. After the bath, I wrap him in a towel and carry him to the area where I dry him with a blowdryer or outside to the sun. After finishing, I am no longer as wet as he is. I keep one apron in our kitchen and another in our camper. The aprons don't look like plastic, but the material is pretty much waterproof and are lightweight. I have never gotten wet when wearing it. They would also be handy when painting, potting plants, and other jobs when you don't want to get dirty or wet. I haven't washed it yet, but for the most part you can wipe it clean. If dirty, they should definitely be able to stand a light washing in the machine. You know your activities, and you will know if this is what you need.
