Review: Beautiful, quality gaiwan - I took a chance buying this, and hoped that the color would match the celadon tea set i purchased. It did not. It’s a more darker green (as the picture shows), and i just chose to ignore the picture and purchase it regardless, thinking “maybe it’s just the lighting!” It was not just the lighting. I still have it and i plan to keep it. It’s a very heavy gaiwan and quite frankly may take some getting used to holding it. It has a beautiful shape to it that reminds me a lot of chinese architecture, and features a stamp at the bottom of the saucer and cup showing the kiln it came from. The rim of al three pieces is left a stark white that really pops against the smooth and dark green, and i think that provides a beautiful contrast. It is also a deep gaiwan, and holds more than any other I own. I don’t know its capacity, but it holds quite a bit and has great even heat retention. Despite its thickness, it heats up very well. UPDATE 6 MONTHS LATER: Not only do i still have it, but it's become my go-to gaiwan for both casual usage and more formal gongfu ceremonies. When brewing tea, it's become an extension of both my arm and who i am.

I've been through a couple of these gaiwans now because they chip and break really easily. They're lovely but entirely too fragile for long-term use. The tiniest little bump and the first one I ordered just crumbled around the rim.
