The stable has two doors on the back with a gold metal hook-style latch. You can easily open the "stable doors" and let the horses out to play. We've had this toy since June 2013 and it has held up very well -- my daughter plays with it constantly and has even dropped it on several occasions. **Q: What is the length and height of the horses?** A: They seem to be about 3.5 inches in length and about 2.5 inches high....ish! **Q: Are the horses small enough to pose a choking hazard? AKA would they fit through the opening of a paper towel roll?** A: Hi- No, they are not a choking hazard. I tried to put one of the horses in a paper towel roll and I could not.
