Where they really shine is on ice. Chains (or studded tires where legal) are the only way to get even partial traction on ice. But they still do have the limitations of standard chains. That is, don't try to drive them faster than about 35 mph TOPS, and don't run them on cleared pavement any more than you absolutely have to.
